AFRICAN AGENCY IN A SHIFTING GLOBAL ORDER: AFRICAN PRIORITIES ON THE REFORM OF THE MULTILATERAL SYSTEM

By: Dr Bob Wekesa

Intorduction

The global governance landscape is undergoing profound change, presenting both challenges and opportunities for Africa. As geopolitical rivalries reshape international institutions and decision-making processes, it is increasingly important for Africa to actively influence the emerging global order rather than simply respond to it.

This roundtable provides a platform for dialogue, consultation, and strategic thinking on Africa’s priorities within the evolving international system. Bringing together policymakers, academics, civil society, and other stakeholders, the discussion seeks to identify pathways for strengthening Africa’s voice in global governance and advancing the continent’s interests in a rapidly changing world.

The initiative forms part of broader efforts to develop African-led perspectives and policy recommendations on the future of multilateralism, global governance reform, and Africa’s role in shaping international norms. For a detailed overview, please download the full concept note.
