THE FUTURE OF AFRICA-US HEALTH DIPLOMACY

Introduction

The webinar on the future of Africa–US health diplomacy was co-organised by the Africa–US Universities Initiative (AFUSI), which brings together the African Centre for the Study of the United States (ACSUS) at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits), the Center on Communication Leadership and Policy (CCLP) at the University of Southern California, the Center for African Studies at Howard University, the Institute for African Studies at George Washington University and the Public Diplomacy Council of America. The forums, which have been convened monthly since the U.S.-Africa Leaders’ Summit in December 2022, provide a platform for exchanging ideas and discussing various global issues, with a particular focus on Africa–U.S. relations. The forums are hosted in a hybrid format, with a physical presence at the University of Southern California in Washington, D.C., and virtual participation via Zoom. Professor Jonathan Cohen of the Department of Clinical Population and Public Health Sciences at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California moderated the webinar, moderated the webinar. He welcomed everyone to the forum, which focused on USAID funding cuts to African health programmes. He introduced the following speakers: Dr Bob Wekesa, Dr Job Allan Wefwafwa, Dr Danjuma Adda, Beatrice Were, and Mia Malan.
