Introduction
The Africa U.S. Universities Initiative (AFUSI), which brings together the African Centre for the Study
of the United States (ACSUS), based at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits), the Center on
Communication Leadership and Policy (CCLP) at the University of Southern California, the Center for
African Studies at Howard University, the Institute for African Studies at George Washington
University, and the Public Diplomacy Council of America convened the last U.S-Africa Forum on 16
December 2024. The forums which have been convened monthly since the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit
in December 2022 are a space for the exchange of ideas and discussions that unpack various global
issues affecting the world, with an emphasis on Africa-U.S. relations. The forums are hosted in a hybrid
format with a physical presence in Washington DC under the auspices of the University of Southern
California and virtual participation via Zoom.
Mr Adam Clayton Powell, senior fellow and director of Washington programs at CCLP welcomed
everyone to the last forum for the year which was focused on Africa’s views of the return of President
Donald Trump to the White House as the new U.S. president. The discussion was moderated by Dr
Bob Wekesa, director at ACSUS.
